Kinetic Typography

Kinetic typography is the technique of applying motion to text. This effect is commonly used in music videos where the lyrics appear on screen, often with effects that link to words they are displaying. For example, if the word "stepping" was sung, its motion onto the screen may be in a footstep effect or if the word "rainbow" was sung it may appear on the screen in multicolour.
Here are two examples of this style of kinetic typography:
Both of these videos use kinetic typography to display the lyrics of the song, however the effects used alongside the motion of the text varies between the videos. The first video has clearly been made to demonstrate the creators abilities and so the visual representation and movement of the lyrics is more important than their actual visibility. Whereas, in the second video, an official lyric video, the visibility of the lyrics is the primary focus and so the effects and motions of the text is limited as this may make the lyrics difficult to read.
This effect is not limited to just music videos though and can also be used in lots of other formats. One other way kinetic typography is used is in advert and infographics where statistics, facts or other written elements may be accompanied by related motion and visual prompts.

These are not official adverts, however they are good examples of a different style of kinetic typography and how it can be used. In both of these videos the motion of the text is much more prominent than the visual representation of the words being shown. This could be to highlight the fact that both adverts may be promoting an athletic, fast-paced lifestyle and this style of kinetic typography is apt for that as the energetic movement of the text and short length of the adverts would be appealing to this audience as I doubt such people would spend lots of time watching an advert or reading text.
